Dr. Jeffrey Elo is a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery and is the Drs. Daljit and Elaine Sarkaria Professor of Advanced Oral Diagnosis and Therapeutics in the SWAGÊÓƵ College of Dental Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and has served as a board examiner for ABOMS since 2014. For the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, he serves as a delegate and member of the Committee on Governmental Affairs. He is a past president, current treasurer, and legislative chair for the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has been the Editor-in-Chief of The California Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 2010. Dr. Elo is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Dentists, and International College of Dentists. He has authored over 170 publications, including articles, abstracts, poster presentations, and book chapters; and is the author of Oral Surgery for Dental Students: A Quick Reference Guide.
Dr. Elo obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry. He then completed specialty residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center and School of Dentistry. He obtained a Master of Science from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry with his thesis entitled, "Implant Success in Distracted Versus Autogenous Grafted Sites." In addition to his faculty appointment at SWAGÊÓƵ, Dr. Elo also maintains a faculty appointment within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loma Linda University. He maintains active hospital staff appointments at Loma Linda University Medical Center and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. His surgical interests include maxillofacial trauma surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology and reconstruction, preprosthetic bone graft reconstruction, management of complex medical patients, intravenous deep sedation, and dentoalveolar surgery.
