Dr. Tina R. Mac Donald received her OD degree from the Southern California College of Optometry (which is now a part of the Marshall B. Ketchum University) in 1992. Following graduation, she completed a residency in (Low) Vision Rehabilitation at The Center for the Partially Sighted (CPS).
After completion of the residency, she was hired on as staff at CPS, was an adjunct associate professor at Marshall B. Ketchum University, worked in private practice, and was the Low Vision Specialist for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was on the team for the first Implantable Miniature Telescopes (post-FDA approval) providing vision rehabilitation and training. Dr. Mac Donald currently heads Western's Century City Eye Institute.
She has served as president of the Los Angeles County Optometric Society, been a Trustee for the California Optometric Association, and has been a part of the American Optometric Association's Healthy Eyes Healthy People® committee. She is currently a member of the AOA's Health Promotion's Committee. Dr. Mac Donald has published articles and lectured on topics including low vision rehabilitation, aging, and diabetes. She received the Lawrence Gallarini Low Vision Memorial Award in 1992, and the Freid Honorary Lecturer in 2006 from the Southern California College of Optometry.
Dr. Mac Donald's special interest is in the systemic disease processes and low vision. She pioneered the HIV and Low Vision Program and the Diabetes and Low Vision Program at The Center for the Partially Sighted. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator and was the first optometrist to pass the National Certification of Diabetes Educator's exam.
