Dear esteemed Students, Faculty, Staff, Colleagues, and Friends,

A very heartfelt Happy Independence Day!

As you may know, The Siege of Yorktown ended military operations in the American Revolution. This joint France-American Continental army effort trapped a major British army on a peninsula at Yorktown, Virginia, forcing the surrender of the British Army.

At that time, the population of the U.S. was approximately 2.5 million, in 1776, compared to the current population of approximately 340 million Americans today.

The first public 4th of July event at the White House took place in 1801. Thomas Jefferson was president, and according to the White House Association, the day was filled with music, food and even horse racing.

Freedom means different things to different people.

Thomas Jefferson stated, 鈥淢ay we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.鈥�

“Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity.” – Herbert Hoover.

“Freedom means the opportunity to be what we never thought we would be.” – Daniel J. Boorstin.

“Life without liberty is like a body without spirit.” – Kahlil Gibran.

As a surgeon-scientist, I think of Freedom as the oxygen for our country and the heartbeat for its citizens.

Regardless, today, as healers, is a day to celebrate independence, and our precious freedom with pride and confidence!

We must celebrate the Freedom to dream, to achieve, and to be the best version of ourselves!

As a distinguished health sciences institution, SWAG视频 enriches our local, regional, state, national, and global communities. The ultimate form of Freedom to express oneself through the practice of the art of medicine.

SWAG视频鈥檚 exemplary educational values are a form of Freedom and are in alignment with our college鈥檚 professional associations and with the professional laws and standards of our state and national licensing boards, placing a predictably greater burden of responsibility on our future healthcare professionals. The university stands united to educate healers at the highest possible scholastic standard, expecting that they will continue to save lives locally and globally, every day.

Amid a growing number of rapidly changing global crises, Western University of Health Sciences (SWAG视频) wishes to reaffirm its continued conviction to Freedom, to its core values of humanism and caring, graduate health sciences education, and the preservation of life, and a continued commitment to students worldwide.
