SWAGÊÓƵ Global Crisis Statement

President’s Office

February 23, 2024

Dear SWAGÊÓƵ Community,

Amid a growing number of rapidly changing global crises, Western University of Health Sciences (SWAGÊÓƵ) wishes to reaffirm its continued conviction to its core values of humanism and caring, graduate health sciences education, and the preservation of life, and propose a plan to enhance student support.

SWAGÊÓƵ is proud to be an institution committed to the education of healers. As such, SWAGÊÓƵ is dedicated to healing suffering, pain, and ill-health, respecting the sanctity of hospitals and clinics, and protecting against the loss of life anywhere worldwide.

SWAGÊÓƵ is honored to be a unique health sciences institution in which all eight colleges champion the highest quality of care across every background, embracing all races, religions, creeds, genders, and identities. As a distinguished health sciences institution, SWAGÊÓƵ’s eight colleges enrich our local, regional, state, national, and global communities.

SWAGÊÓƵ’s exemplary educational values are in alignment with our college’s professional associations and with the professional laws and standards of our state and national licensing boards, placing a predictably greater burden of responsibility on our future healthcare professionals.

The university stands united to educate healers at the highest possible scholastic standard, expecting that they will continue to save lives locally and globally, every day.

Not surprisingly, the global healthcare community needs SWAGÊÓƵ trained graduates now, more than ever!

To actualize SWAGÊÓƵ’s educational commitment, we propose the following actions:

  1. On Tuesday February 27th at 12:05PM, we invite our SWAGÊÓƵ community to stand and engage in one minute of silent prayer or reflection, wherever one finds themselves, for past and present loss of life, harm, and for the loved ones who endure the pain of such loss.
  2. SWAGÊÓƵ will provide spaces on both campuses for all in our community to belong, share, and remove distress. Specifically, SWAGÊÓƵ will provide a series of professionally facilitated healing and belonging meetings where students from our community experiencing distress can find solace and support, interact, heal with others, and access professional care.
  3. SWAGÊÓƵ is dedicated to supporting our community’s wellbeing. For immediate and confidential assistance, students and employees can contact Optum Emotional Wellbeing Solutions (EWS) at 1-800-234-5465. Students can online with an on-site Optum provider for video, telephonic, or in-person appointments. For academic support, students can schedule an appointment online with the Learning Enhancement and Academic Development (LEAD) office. Warmest Regards,
Robin
