HEERF I – CARES Act Emergency Student Grants Report (Leave Posted Till June 30, 2025)

June 12, 2020

The following public information is provided in compliance with Section § 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act for Western University of Health Sciences (SWAGÊÓƵ):

  1. SWAGÊÓƵ signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on April 24, 2020 for the Student Aid portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). SWAGÊÓƵ has used or will use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. SWAGÊÓƵ received notice on May 2, 2020, that it had received an award of $552,850, and this amount was drawn down from the Department of Education on May 12, 2020. This amount represents fifty percent of the total funds to be received by SWAGÊÓƵ under Section 18004(a)(1) and will be used by the University to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus.
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to 240 students under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is $552,850.00 as of June 19, 2020.
  4. The total number of students at SWAGÊÓƵ eligible to participate in Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 3,225.
  5. It is the policy of the Financial Aid Office to distribute CARES Act Emergency funds to students directly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic based on the following:
      • Immediate housing and food expenses
      • Non-enrollment living expenses
      • COVID-19 health expenses
      • Childcare expenses due to COVID-19
      • Electronic devices for distance learning
  6. Notifications to Students
      • Cares Act funding applications were mailed to students on May 12, 2020 with a deadline date of May 29,2020 to return their applications
      • Applications will be reviewed from June 3, 2020 through June 12, 2020
      • Notice of awards and disbursements will occur by June 19, 2020

HEERF II – CRRSAA Act Emergency Student Grants Report

June 25, 2021

The following public information is provided in compliance with Section § 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act for Western University of Health Sciences (SWAGÊÓƵ):

  1. SWAGÊÓƵ signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on April 24, 2020 for the Student Aid portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). SWAGÊÓƵ has used or will use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 314(a)(1) of the CRRSAA Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. SWAGÊÓƵ received notice on January 13, 2021, that it had received an award of $552,850, and this amount was drawn down from the Department of Education on March 15, 2021. This amount represents fifty percent of the total funds to be received by SWAGÊÓƵ under Section 314(a)(1) and will be used by the University to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus.
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to 560 students under section 314(a)(1) of the CRRSAA Act is $552,850.00 as of June 17, 2021.
  4. The total number of students at SWAGÊÓƵ eligible to participate in Section 314(a)(1) of the CRRSAA Act is 3,351.
  5. It is the policy of the Financial Aid Office to distribute CRRSAA Act Emergency funds to students directly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic based on the following:
      • Immediate housing and food expenses
      • Non-enrollment living expenses
      • COVID-19 health expenses
      • Childcare expenses due to COVID-19
      • Electronic devices for distance learning
  6. Notifications to Students
      • CRRSAA Act funding notifications were mailed to students on January 29, 2021, with a deadline date of February 15, 2021, to complete their application through academic works
      • Applications will be reviewed from February 22, 2021, through March 12, 2021
      • Notice of awards and disbursements occurred March 17, 2021

HEERF III – ARP Reporting

October 8, 2021

The following public information is provided in compliance with Section § 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act for Western University of Health Sciences (SWAGÊÓƵ):

  1. SWAGÊÓƵ signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on April 24, 2020 for the Student Aid portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).
  2. SWAGÊÓƵ received notice on May 27, 2021, that our institution had received a HEERF III award of $1,312,524 and $1 was drawn down from the Department of Education on August 27, 2021. As of this date we have not awarded students with the HEERF III funds, our goal is to award this funding to students by December 17, 2021.

January 07, 2022

  1. SWAGÊÓƵ signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on April 24, 2020, for the Student Aid portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). SWAGÊÓƵ has used or will use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 314(a)(1) of the ARP Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. SWAGÊÓƵ received notice on May 27, 2021, that our institution had received a HEERF III award of $1,312,524 and $1 was drawn down from the Department of Education on August 27, 2021.
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to 3,689 students under section 314(a)(1) of the ARP Act is $1,312,524.00 as of January 07, 2022.
  4. The total number of students at SWAGÊÓƵ eligible to participate in Section 314(a)(1) of the ARP Act is 3,689.
  5. It is the policy of the Financial Aid Office to distribute ARP Act Emergency funds to students directly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic based on the following:
      • Immediate housing and food expenses
      • Non-enrollment living expenses
      • COVID-19 health expenses
      • Childcare expenses due to COVID-19
      • Electronic devices for distance learning
  6. Notifications to Students
      • On November 15, 2021, data was extracted from the University’s software system showing that 3,689 students were eligible to receive HEERF III funding based on enrollment of at least half-time.
      • 2,641 Students were identified with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 0- 5,846 (Pell Eligible students). These students were classified as high need and received $377.93.
      • 1,048 Students were identified with an EFC over 5,846 or students that did not complete a FAFSA. These students included No Aid Students, International Students, DACA students and students only receiving scholarships and received $300.
      • Award notifications were emailed to all eligible students on December 8, 2021, and disbursements occurred on December 15, 2021.
