CITI Training

All researchers including faculty, students, and staff conducting research must complete online training available through This training is required for all types of research applications, including minor modifications.

CITI certification must be renewed every three years. CITI certification must be maintained current throughout the research project.听 Each course has a set of modules that must be completed with an overall score of 80%. CITI will issue 鈥渃ompletion certificate鈥 for each course completed. See instructions for registering and access to CITI training below.

Please upload a copy of the completion certificates for all researchers (including student assistants) involved in the research project in IRBNet.

Approval to proceed with any research project will be withheld if these mandatory training requirements are not met.

All persons with a significant role in a research project must meet these training requirements. This includes, but is not limited to the following persons:

  • Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator(s).
  • Persons named on a study grant or contract proposal.
  • Persons named as a contact person in an informed consent document or recruitment material.
  • Persons who obtain informed consent from prospective research participants.
  • Staff members/ Students assigned to work with the PI.
  • IRB, IACUC, IBC members and administrators
  • Non-SWAG视频, pre- approved visitors or volunteers / researchers listed on an approved protocol.
  • Anyone requiring access to laboratory or vivarium areas on campus (additional safety training required by EH&S)

    The Office of Research Regulatory Affairs (ORRA)听 is responsible for registering ALL Research Faculty , Staff and Students for required CITI training per area of research: To help ORRA with this process please complete the .听 Completion of the checklist will allow ORRA to register you for the required courses as part of the research onboarding process.

    One you have been registered, access your courses:

    CITI Online Training Access:

    2. Click Log in > LOG IN THROUGH MY INSTITUTION
    3. Select Western University of Health Sciences and sign in using your credentials. Click Accept
    4. In COURSES READY TO BEGIN, select START NOW. Click I AGREE.

     

    Once you have completed your training, please add your CITI completion certificate to your IRBNet User profile.听 For instructions ,visit Submission process or please contact ORRA

    All Personnel (Students, Staff and Faculty) involved in research must take the following CITI training:

    • Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Basic Course (CITI Q4)
    • Conflicts of Interest (COI) Basic Course (CITI Q3)

    Human Subject Research- Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements:

    1. If you are listed in any research overseen by the IRB, you must complete the following CITI Training.

    • Students– Students as Researchers or Subjects Course (Students only)
    • PI- Co-I 鈥 (course specific to scope of individual research)
      • Social and Behavioral Research Basic Course
      • Biomedical Research Basic Course听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听
    • Good Clinical Practice (Required for funded clinical research) (CITI Q7)

     

    1. Anyone that works in a research laboratory /vivarium at SWAG视频 must take the following CITI training:

    Laboratory Safety Compliance

    • All researchers – Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Basic Course (CITI Q8)
    • All researchers– Laboratory Chemical Safety Basic Course (CITI Q9)
    • All researchers-Occupational Health & Safety Course (CITI Q6)

    In addition to the Laboratory Safety Compliance in Part 2, if you are working on laboratory research that is overseen by any of the following committees (IACUC, IBC, SCROC) you must additionally take the CITI Training that corresponds to the committee/s listed:

    Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) (CITI Q5)

    • All Researchers (PI, Co-I, staff, students, non SWAG视频 researchers listed on approved protocol)
      • Researchers (ACU) basic course
      • Species specific courses– Select the species you will be working with for related courses.
      • Animal technicians-Animal Technicians (ACU)
      • Teaching Projects( ACU)

    Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) (CITI Q6)

    • All Researchers– 听听Researchers (BSS)
    • Shipping and Receiving (BSS) Basic Course

    Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (SCROC)

    • All Researchers– Stem Cell Research Oversight Basic Course听 (CITI Q1)

    Radiation Safety Committee (RSC)

    • All Researchers– Radiation Safety – Basic Course听 (CITI Q10)
